Solar Power

In 2014, the District began looking into options for becoming more energy independent. The district conducted a study to determine whether or not solar would be an effective source. A link to the feasibility study can be found below.

After a public RFP process, the Marion Central School District approved a contract with Monolith Energy to purchase electricity from solar panels to be installed at the Jr-Sr High School. These contracts and projects were approved in the summer of 2016 at the New York State Department of Education and NYSERDA. The construction quickly began and the solar grid was completed in August of 2016.

The district is proud of this initiative as it will not only result in substantial cost savings, but aligns well with our district's philosophical framework around a commitment to innovation.
